PRODUCE MARKET REPORT

OVERVIEW

MARKET REVIEW

Regional Production Highlights - Week of August 17th:

Tomato demand from Mexico remains strong, especially for round varieties, pushing up prices, while domestic supply is limited due to weather in the East. Grape and snacking tomatoes are abundant, but Roma tomato demand and pricing are down. Quality is excellent from Mexico but only fair from U.S. regions like NC and TN. California production is steady.

Bell peppers, Red Fresnos, and Tomatillos remain in tight supply. California grapes and Firebaugh melons are showing strong quality and supply. Banana and pineapple supplies are limited, with sizing flexibility needed. Stone fruit crops from California and the Southeast are in full swing, while Washington cherries are arriving. Avocado supply is stable, with strong performance from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia.

Lettuce and broccoli face quality and supply issues due to pests and heat, with Salinas reporting light yields. Specialty greens like Bok Choy and Napa remain escalated with school demand increasing. Citrus markets are tight, especially for small lemons, while Valencia oranges and grapefruit are in transition. U.S. citrus imports from Argentina and Chile are ongoing, with Chile expecting increased volumes. California garlic harvest is underway, but growers are not yet accepting new orders.
